SHAKEEKA WATTS -- Graphic Designer
The two greatest loves of my life are my daughter and my artwork. I knew I wanted to be an artist the day I had won the 3rd grade art competition.
My style of art changed when I became a mother at the age of 19. My artwork allows me to escape the hectic lifestyle of being a single parent-mother, full-time college student (Wingate University) and a full-time assistant manager. My artwork signifies the struggle that I, along with many other single parents, endure on a daily basis.
My work is "Linoleum Block Prints". The process involves drawing an image on a piece of linoleum. The negative space around the image is carved away, leaving a raised surface. The surface is then inked and run through a press. Finally, the image is transferred to Stonehenge top-quality paper. |
